“Rising Sun”

Within this piece H. Maria Wright Hall and the surrounding Taylor campus is depicted in the background based on a photograph from early on in the 20th century. Additional inspiration for this piece came from the president's statement in a 1962 yearbook where he discusses the healing and positive qualities of light and how each new day can bring hope and rekindled aspirations. While the image and writing are from several decades ago, the sentiment of what was shared still applies to us today.  “The rising sun lifts the black gauze of gloom and fatigue from weary spirits.” - President Joseph Martin, 1962
