"Casual Observers: Taylor Life in 2022" is a result of a collaboration between Archives & Special Collections and the Art Department to incorporate Taylor University's heritage into the curriculum.
Students in ART 253 (Foundations of Photography) visited the Zondervan Library and engaged many historical university photos from Archives & Special Collections from the 19th and 20th centuries. Many of the photos were taken in the 1960s and 1970s and capture everyday facets of Taylor life.
Then, the students split into groups, each with a prompt, and were given time to travel across campus observing and capturing Taylor life today in a similar vein to the historical photos they viewed. The students then reviewed and edited the photos and generated captions.
The prompts were:
Best Spot on Campus
The Essence of Taylor
Today's Fashion
Residence Life
Technology
Faculty members that were involved in this collaboration include Prof. Jamie Miles (Art) and Prof. Ashley Chu (Archives & Special Collections)
