Description
It is challenging to pursue humbleness when we feel we’ve made it. We’ve pulled it off. In this chapter, the devil emphasizes those moments to perish the humbleness and maximize the entitlement within us. What God wants is to remain humble regardless of any circumstance and turn out attention to neighbors and God’s creation, rather than ourselves.
“…they may even do us good if they keep the man concerned with himself, and, above all, if self-contempt can be made the starting-point for contempt of other selves, and thus for gloom, cynicism and cruelty.” (Ch. 14, pg. 56)
