Abstract
The Senior Engineering Project for the Class of 2022 at Taylor University is a physical walking environment for virtual reality (VR). The project is nicknamed New Worlds, per the vision of being fully immersed in previously unexplored environments. The current scope allows the user to walk forwards and backwards in the virtual space, while the system gently keeps the user constrained in a physical space. The user walks on two independently controlled platforms, which track the user’s feet, stay underneath them, and simulate the ground surface. The system has redundant safety measures for fall prevention and error condition detection.
