Abstract
Dr. Steve Messer shares the story of his mother’s suicide and how God helped him through his grieving process.
Dr. Steve Messer is in his twenty-sixth year in the History Department at Taylor University. His general area of expertise is United States History. He and Dr. Betty Messer, Professor of Spanish Language and Culture, have been married for thirty-seven years. He is a survivor of his mother’s suicide in 1961 and the fifty years of silence that followed. His address, The Short and the Long of It, focuses on God’s presence in the effort to break this silence and is based on his 2015 book Finding Mom.
