Abstract

Rooted Families is set in the context of a family dynamic: a mother, a father, and children. Parents often drop their kids off at church on Sunday, yet many feel unqualified to disciple their children at home. This paper is the philosophy of ministry for Rooted Families, which is located at First Missionary Church in Fort Wayne Indiana. The goal is to provide a framework for churches to enable them to create spaces for parents to learn and be equipped to disciple their children. This paper describes the theological, anthropological, and sociological premises that affect parents and their influence over their children in the faith. In addition, the paper offers a detailed description of how parents may be transformed after being involved in this ministry. This work provides both a theoretical and practical basis for whole family ministry. Through prayer, fellowship, and classes, the parents will feel confident to disciple their kids. When the parents are discipled, their kids are discipled. By the end of this ministry, all will come to know how much God loves them, and be able share that love with others.
